I am on a journey to get, feel and look healthier. No, it’s not this vague, nebulous thing. I have clear goals in terms of workouts, general flexibility & strength, body fat percentage, and weight.
I maintain a diary of my food intake and stick to the appropriate macros for my weight.
I use a heart rate tracker to monitor my workouts.
I stay consistent with my sleep time and the hours I sleep.
I check my weight and track progress.
Let’s try this again.
I maintain a diary of my food intake most days and stick to the appropriate macros for my weight most days.
I use a heart rate tracker to monitor my workouts but try not to kill myself over it on bad days.
I stay consistent with my sleep time many days and the hours I sleep as much as possible.
I check my weight and track progress when I’m feeling upbeat.
I used to do these very consistently, and all the time. But over time, I’ve come to accept that most of the time is a comfortable thing for me. I know that not sticking with the routine means my progress towards my goals will slow down. But you know what, I’m okay with that. My life isn’t just about my physical health. It is also about my mental well being and emotional health. There are times when other things take precedence. What matters to me is sticking with a good lifestyle. I’m not interested in a short term fix. My life doesn’t need a bandaid. It needs a deeper, meaningful way to have my cake and eat it too. Quite literally.
So here’s to reminding myself on days that I indulge that it’s not a sprint, but a marathon.
